Charlotte Emma Aitchison (born 2 August 1992), known as Charli XCX, is an English artist and lyricist. Born in Cambridge and raised in Start Hill, Essex, she started posting melodies on Myspace in 2008. In 2010, she marked a recording contract with Asylum Records, delivering a progression of singles and mixtapes throughout 2011 and 2012.
In 2012, Charli XCX collaborated with the Icona Pop for "I Love It," which turned popular worldwide, at the top 10 in North America and Europe. True Romance was released in 2013. It was one of the best-selling singles worldwide and was nominated for two Grammy Awards. The same year, Charli XCX delivered "Boom Clap," which became her first performance top-ten single on the Billboard Hot 100. Her second studio collection, the punk-influenced Sucker, was released toward the year's end and produced the hit singles "Disrupt the Guidelines" and "Doing It."
In 2015, Charli XCX started working closely with the UK collective PC Music, fostering a more exploratory sound and picture. She delivered the Vroom Vroom EP (2016) and the mixtapes Number 1 Angel and Pop 2 (both 2017), just as a progression of singles including the BPI-ensured "After the Afterparty," "Young men," and "1999". Her third and fourth studio albums, Charli (2019) and How I'm Feeling Now (2020), were hits; the last was made inside a range of six weeks during the COVID-19 lockdowns. In 2021, Charli XCX co-composed and lent voice on the Jax Jones and Joel Corry single "Out."
Charli XCX has co-composed melodies for different craftsmen, including Iggy Azalea's "Ask for It" (2014), Selena Gomez's "Standard, worn-out Love" (2015), Blondie's "This evening" (2017), and the Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello collaboration "Señorita" (2019).
Charli's dad, Jon Aitchison, is a Scottish entrepreneur and former show-booker. Her mom, Sameera, is a former medical caretaker and airline steward brought up in Uganda to a Gujarati Indian family. Charlie was raised in Start Hill, Essex, and attended Bishop's Stratford College. She started composing melodies at 14 years, and her first composition is "Fish and Chip Shop."
