Kurt Sutter

Kurt Leon Sutter is an American producer, director, actor and screenwriter. His best-known work is the hit TV series, The Shield, which he has produced, directed, written and acted in. He appeared in the show as the hitman Margos Dezerian. He is also the creator of another hit TV series, Sons of Anarchy that was broadcasted of FX. The Sons of Anarchy too, he was the writer, producer, and directors as well as acted out a small part as well. He played the part of the incarcerated club member Otto Delaney, in the series as well as a few others. As part of the research for the Sons of Anarchy, Sutter actually spent time with the members of some outlaw motorcycle group in Northern California. He was born on May 5, 1960 in Rahway, New Jersey to his parents, both of whom were working. His mother was a secretary of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Newark, and his father worked at the General Motors plant in Linden, New Jersey. His siblings are two older sisters. He grew up in the town called Clark in New Jersey and attended Roselle Catholic High School from where he graduated in 1982.

After that, he joined Livingston College for the journalism department of Rutgers University. In 1986, graduated from Rutgers University with a BA in mass media with a minor in English. He continued his studies and in 1997, graduated from the Northern Illinois University with a degree in M.F.A. in performance and directing. When he had moved to LA, he was hired as one of the staff writers for the show The Shield that was showcased on FX crime. Through this show, he made his acting debut with the episode name Blowback. Later, in 2003, he was promoted as the story editor for the second season of The Shield, and in the very next year, he joined the production team in a junior role of co-producer for the next season. But he continued to write and later reprised his role of Dezerian, the hitman for the season finale. By 2007, he had become the executive producer for the sixth season running of the show and was still writing some episodes.

In 2008, he created and produced a new TV series for FX titled Sons of Anarchy. The prequel for the same is set to appear on the FX Networks and in addition to working on that, he is developing a six-issue comic book miniseries called Lucas Stand. He is married to the Sons of Anarchy actress Katey Sagal since 2004 and they live in their home in Los Feliz, California. Together they have a daughter named Esme Louise who was born through surrogacy. Sutter is a Vegan and an animal right activist as well as a motorcycle enthusiast.
