City. His father was a psychologist and the Minister at the Ethical Culture Society and his mother was a librarian and writer. He did his schooling from The Bronx High School of Science. He did his graduation with a BA at Haverford College. He started acting in his college period by taking part in a Sketch comedy group named The Lighted Fools.
After completing his studies, he returned to New York and worked as an assistant writer on Spin City and Welcome to New York. After that, he moved to Los Angeles and worked as an assistant writer on Scrubs. He wrote several shows such as Run of the House, The Mighty B, and Upright Citizens Brigade. He was nominated for the best screenplay award for Judas and the Black Messiah. His screenplay has won the NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Writing in a Motion Picture and the Writer’s Guild Paul Selvin Award.Â
