Patricia Velasquez

Patricia Carola Velasquez Semprún is a Venezuelan fashion model and actress. She is considered as the first Native American who became a supermodel. She was born on 31 January 1971 in Maracaibo, Venezuela. She was the daughter of Venezuelan parents and born at the fifth number among six children. Her mother and father is an associate of the indigenous Wayuu people and mestizo respectively. Her parents were teachers. His father even worked at UNESCO because of which she got the chance to live in France and Mexico. She is fluent in French, Spanish, English, and Italian. She graduated in 1987 from San Vicente de Paul High School.

In 1989, she took part in the Miss Venezuela pageant, in which she became the second runner up. The position that she scored earlier would today be a ninth. She studied for three years in college. In her early years, she appeared in the annual Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue for several issues.

During her modelling career, she was ranked 16 in "102 Sexiest Women in the World" poll of Stuff magazine. In 2001, she was placed at 45th position in “Hot 100 Women” of the Maxim magazine. In 2002, she founded the WayúuTayá Foundation, an NGO which assists the Venezuelan indigenous group called Wayúu. She made a special appearance for rock band Red Hot Chili Peppers in "Breaking the Girl" video. In 2008, she played Begonia on the 5th season of The L Word for several episodes. She did the part of Marta Estrella on TV show named Arrested Development. 

She appeared as a guest star, as Celia Gonzalez, on CSI: Miami for one episode titled as "From the Grave". She played Nez on Rescue Me for the first season. In 2015, she released “Straight Walk,” her memoir in which she discussed the conditions in which she grew up in Venezuela and her relationship with Sandra Bernhard which made her realise that she is a lesbian. She has a daughter named Maya with Lauren, her ex-girlfriend.
