Jessalyn Sarah Gilsig, a Canadian actress, was born on November 30, 1971, in Mon-treal, Quebec, Canada. Her father, Toby Gilsig, was an engineer. Her mother, Claire, was a writer and translator. At an early age of twelve, Gilsig had already made an entry into the world of show business, when she was hired to do a voice work for “Masquerade.” It was a program that had been produced by the National Film Board of Canada. She has also worked as the voice actress in the TV series “Young Robin Hood.” Gilsig was a trained actress. She attended McGill University in Montreal. In 1993, she completed her graduation with a Bachelors of Arts degree in the subject, English. Even in college, she participated in many stage productions. After college, she pursued her further education at Harvard University's Institute for Advanced Theater Training.

Apart from television, in 1998, Gilsig started her career in films with a small role in the movie, Horse Whisperer. She also gave her voice for the character, Kayley, in the animated film Quest for Camelot.
Her other works include See This Movie, Chicks with Sticks, and Flood. On January 1, 2005, Gilsig married Booby Salomon, a film producer, in a Jewish style. They had been blessed with a girl, Penelope, born on September 26, 2006. In 2009, they had separated and had filed a divorce on September 8, 2010.
