Gemma Jones

Gemma Jones is a British theater and film artist known for her roles in Sense and Sensibility, You Will Meet a Tall Dark Stranger, and Bridget Jones Diary. Jones was presented with a BAFTA TV Award for the Best Supporting Actress for her work in BBC TV’s drama comedy, ‘Marvellous’.

Gemma was born to father, Griffith Jones, who was an actor, and mother, Irene. Gemma is also the brother of the actor, Nicholas Jones. Jones pursued her education in drama at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London. Jones started her television career in 1971 with BBC Network’s adaptation of the novel, The Spoils of Python. The 70s also saw Jones feature as Princess Vicky in John Elliot’s drama serial, Fall of Eagles, Louisa Trotter in, The Duchess of Duke Street, and Portia in BBC’s, The Merchant of Venice. In 1987, Jones was casted in the detective drama, Inspector Morse, and nearly a decade later, she made an appearance in a television adaptation of “The Phoenix and the Carpet.” The millennium decade saw Jones feature in shows such as Agatha Christie’s ‘Poirot’, the Rik Mayall starrer sitcom, All About George, and the BBC Network’s telefilm, Ballet Shoes.

Jones began her movie career in 1971 with an appearance in Ken Russell’s historical drama, The Devils. Jones’s portrayal of Mrs. Pamela Jones in the Sharon McGuire-directed romantic comedy, Bridget Jones’s Diary, presented her with appraisal from the audience. Jones also played the memorable role of Poppy Pomfrey, the magical healer, in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, and its sequels. 2010 saw Jones make an appearance in Woody Allen’s comedy-drama, You Will Meet a Tall Dark Stranger.

Gemma Jones is married to Sebastian Graham Jones, and is the mother of actor, Luke Jones.
