Candice Boucher is one of the top fashion models as well as a major star of the Indian film industry, although she is a native of Durban, South Africa. She began her career in South Africa, took off in European and American modelling and received world-wide attention for her appearance in a 2010 Playboy spread which she later said that she wouldn’t have done if given the choice again. She has continued to do eye-catching magazine photography work, including a 2013 shoot for the South African edition of Marie Claire and a just-finished photo series for the lifestyle magazine Essays in Africa.
Her major focus in recent years, however, has been on Bollywood films, with which she says she was familiar from an early age because of their popularity with the large Indian population in South Africa. She got into film line because of her friendship with producer-director
, and has been seen at film festivals and movie openings since then, including a Cannes appearance in a see-through dress that was seen from the pictures around the world. She describes herself as a quiet stay-at-home teenager, but a photographer saw her pictures at age 17, and since then she has been a famous face in FHM, GQ, Elle, Cosmopolitan and the swimsuit issue of Sports Illustrated.
Her celebrated Playboy cover was filmed in Kenya, and a subsequent Marie Claire spread was done at the request of photographer Marguerite Oelofse, recipient of a heart transplant, to raise funds for South Africa’s Organ Donor Foundation. Her first musical appearance was with Nihaar Pandyaon HimeshReshammiya’s 2006 album Aap Kaa Surroor. She had the lead along with in the high-budget Aazaan. The film was praised for its visuals and sense of style, and led to the marketing of Candice Boucher wallpaper.
