Amira is the daughter of a Kurdish father and a Russian mother. She was born in London and grew up inĀ Ireland, and France, besides England. From 1991 to 1994, she studied acting at the National Academy of Dramatic Arts in Paris. She is fluent in English and French and knowsĀ German, Italian, and Spanish. Her first role was in the 1989 film Erreur de jeunesse (Mistakes of Youth), directed by Radovan Tadic. In 1997 she played Sandra Benzakhem in the movie La Verite si Je mens!, and was nominated for the CĆ©sar Award for the most promising actress.
She later appeared in two sequels to the movie in 2001 and 2012.Ā Casar played Myriem in Anne Fontaine's "How I Killed My Father" (2001),Ā Assia Wevill in Sylvia (2003) by Christine Jeffs,Ā and also played in Catherine Breillat's Anatomy of Hell (2004). She played Ava inĀ To Paint or Make Love (2005) by Arnaud and Jean Marie Larrieu.
She was seen asĀ Marianne in Hypnotized and Hysterical (2002). This is a Claude Duty film that won the Grand Golden Rail at the 2002 Cannes Film Festival. She played Malvina Van Stille (2005) in The Piano Tuner of Earthquakes by Brothers Quay; Marie in TransylvaniaĀ by Tony Gatlif in 2006. In 2007, Casar starred in the installation artist Sophie Calle's Venice Biennale Prenez Soin de Vous. In 2008, she played Dolores inĀ Laetitia Masson's Coupable andĀ Irene in Werner Schroeter's final movie, Nuit de Chien. In 2009, Casar played Anna Di Baggio inĀ Eleonore Faucher'sĀ "Gamines". In 2011, Casar played Irene in "Let My People Go!" and in Playoff, she played the role ofĀ Dennis. In 2013 she starred in the Arnaud des Pallieres movie Michael Kohlhaas, and in 2014 she played Anne Marie Munoz in Bertrand Bonnello's Saint Laurent Click to look into! >> Read More... . In 2015, Casar appeared in The Forbidden Room by Canadian director Guy Maddin. In the television series Versailles, she played Ā Beatrice and Madame de Clermont. In 2017, she played Annella Perlman in Call Me by Your Name.
She also starred in Caroline Fourest's movie "Sisters in Arms." Casar'sĀ is known for herĀ theater works,Ā includingĀ the production of Aunt Dan and Lemon at the Almeida Theatre. She did the title role of Hedda Gabler from Le Petit ThĆ©Ć¢tre de Paris. She also starred in Olivier Py's production of Les Enfants de Saturne at the Theatre National de LOdeon. In 2011, she played in Jeanne d'Arc au BĆ¼cherĀ at the Barbican Centre with the London Symphony Orchestra.Ā Casar also appeared in Bryan Adams' 1995 music video "Have you ever really loved a woman?"
