Plot

A bright American-Italian, 17-year-old, Elio Perlman relaxes in his family's 17th-century villa in the northern region of Italy during the summer of 1983 while transcribing and playing classical music, reading, and flirting with his friend Marzia. But when Oliver, a charming American student, shows up to help Elio's father with his work in Italy, Elio's summer is wholly changed. Throughout the summer that will forever alter their lives, Elio and Oliver quickly learn the beauty of awakening desire.

Star Performance

Elio's coming-of-age portrayal by Timothée Chalamet is simply breathtaking. Chalamet does a fantastic job of capturing the inner conflicts of a young man trying to understand all the new emotions. Armie Hammer plays the role of Oliver, completely captures the physical and emotional complexities of the character, and effortlessly delivers a stunning performance. Analysis

It is a film that wisely avoids labeling the true nature of its central relationship because it sees that bond as something unique to these two characters, those who meet by chance and have no idea what will come of that fateful connection. The director Luca Guadagnino and the cinematographer Sayombhu Mukdeeprom used the lens to frame each scene with care and consideration, making the most of every location and capturing the alienation, intimacy, and joy. The movie takes us to the breathtaking scenery of Northern Italy and the mesmerizing emotional landscape of first love. The film contains many moving and insightful observations about life, love, and acceptance. The portrayal of Elio and Oliver's relationship as tender, fragile, and new is in vivid detail.
