Ni dahong was born in 1960 in Harbin city, Heilongjiang, China. Ni Dahong is a famous Chinese actor who has worked in much Chinese television series and movies. In the year 1980, he got selected to the troupe of Jixi Drama. In the year 1986, he completed his graduation from The Central Academy of Drama in China and worked in national experimental theatre. Soon after finishing his graduation Dahong made his debut in 1991 in the television series I'm a countryman. He got opposite actors like Pan Changjiang, Liu Jinshan, etc.

In the year 1993, he was offered a puny role in comedy film Chen Pei. His success started from here, from then opportunities did not end for him. In the year 1994, he acted with Song Dandan(sitcom actress) in I love my family which was a family comedy. Later on in the year 2006, he performed as a physician named Jiang in the Chinese epic drama Curse of the Golden Flower, a dramatic blockbuster. Then skies were no limit for Dahong; he appeared in many small and big films as well as television series.

He did many supporting roles and came opposite many Chinese superstars. In the recent times, he appeared in the film Lethal Hostage which was a crime thriller, a romantic comedy Better and Better. He co-starred with Wu Jing in a war film Wolf Warriors. In the year, he played the main role in the historical series on television named Counter Japanese Hero Qi Jiguang. In the year 2011, he acted in Love Never Dies.

His co-stars were Francis Ng, actor Sun Haiying(Chinese artist), and Lü Liping. The very year, came his next film, The Assassins. It is a Chinese historical drama and was directed by Zhao Linshan. The co-star was Chow Yun as Cao Cao. He was a warlord who at the end of the Han dynasty, became the head of the central government. He is a versatile actor as he did many thrillers as well.

A prominent one was crime thriller Lethal Hostage (was set up on the Chinese-Burmese border) with Wang Luodan and Sun Honglei. For his work, he has received various award nominations like 47th Golden Horse Awards (Taipei Film Festival held in Taiwan) and Asian Film Critics Association Awards. In the year 2016, Ni was given the role as Yan Song on Qi Jiguang(historical television series), co-starred by Zhu Xiaoyun, and Yu Rongguang. Coming to his personal life, he married actress Ni Wei, who is the sister of Ni Ping.

Ni Dahong is in his fifties but continues to work well.
