When a tall and willowy person is chosen to play a part of a fat guy, it might get funny. But Jonathan Hale, with his acting, made it appealing. Being born a rich person on 2nd March, 1891, he liked to boost about his richness. Before testing his skills in acting, he was challenging his wits as a diplomat in Diplomatic Corps.
He appeared on various TV shows from 1934 to 1965. This Canada based actor is identified with his much appreciated role as Julius Caesar Dithers (the fat guy) in the Blond Series. Blond series and his name are metonym; tangibility of which can be looked upon by the fact that he continued roles in ‘Blond’ series until 1946 and also voiced the same role in its final film named ‘Beware of Blondie’.
He could be seen as business-tycoons in ‘Night Holds Terror’ as Bob Anderson, ‘Strangers on a Train’ as Mr. Anthony and as Dagwood Bumstead’s boss and the likes. He could also be seen playing majestic politicians in ‘Kansas Pacific’ as Railroad President and as Governor in ‘Baron of Arizona’. His depiction of the military officers of those times can be seen in movies such as ‘Bugle Sounds’ playing Brigadier-General.
He has appeared on-screen many a times as Inspector Farnack in cinema such as ‘Saints Take Over’, ’Saint’s Double Trouble Click to look into! >> Read More... ’ , ‘Saints Strike Back’ and many more. He had in all appeared in 200 films and guest roles in some television series as Medical Examiner in ‘Kraft Suspense Theatre’ and as Doyle in ‘The Joey Bishop Shop.’ Unfortunately facing a tragic end, he took his own life with a 0.38 caiber gun on Feb 28th 1966. After about four decades of negligence of his resting place, he now lies in glory at Valhalla Memorial Park Cemetery in North Hollywood. This initiative was taken by a group who call themselves “Dearly Departed” and his burial ground is now called ‘We Remember You’. Because some really do!
