William G. "Glenn Shadix" Scott was born on April 15, 1952 in Bessemer, Alabama. His mother Ruth Livingston Shadix divorced his father Senator John Sparkman two years after Glenn was born and married Chester Scott. From Childhood, he performed in school’s theater productions.
At the age of 18, Glenn was discovered to be homosexual and was forced to psychiatric treatment due to which he attempted suicide. After getting released from the UAB (University of Alabama) hospital, he started working under some acclaimed production houses theatre plays. He enjoyed his career from films to television. He worked on honing his acting skills, studying dozen of plays and improvising his comedy with the Groundlings Improv Group. His debut film,The Postman Always Rings Twice (released in 1981) did not receive much praise at the box office. Weekly Award for this role) and decided to cast Shadix in Beetlejuice. He played Otho Fenlock, the pretentious interior designer in Beetlejuice, which released in 1988. His talent was finally recognized and Tim Burton decided to cast him as the voice of Mayor of Halloween Town in The Nightmare Before Christmas which is a stop motion fantasy film released in 1993. He also played Senator Nado in Burton’s Planet of the Apes released in 2001 which was a remake and sci-fi classic. From 1990s-2000s he acted in many films like Heathers (1989) as Father Ripper, Meet the Applegates (1991) as Greg Samson, Demolition Man (1993) as Associate Bob, Love Affair (1994) as Anthony Rotundo. He continued giving his voice for many films and working as an actor for the smaller role. His well-known television works include the HBO drama American television series Carnivà le and Sienfeld, an American Comedy sitcom of nine seasons aired on the NBC television. The roles of giant brothers named Typhoon and Typhon in Hercules: The Legendary Journeys in three episodes.
In 2002, he went gastric bypass surgery to fight obesity and live a healthy life. In 2005, he took 4-year break from films and returned in 2009 with Finding Gaugin as Monsieur Vollard. During his break, he went to Bessemer to stay with his family. In 2008, he bought a condominium at Highland Plaza on Highland Avenue. He also worked for the United Service Organizations (USO) and the Wounded Warrior Project, visiting military hospitals. He also showed his support from the gay community and worked as a gay right activist.
On 7 September 2010, he had a fatal fall at his home in Birmingham, Alabama. The local media was informed by sister of Shadix, Susan Gagne that he hit his head near the kitchen area and died due to head injuries. His memorial service was held at Covenant Community Church.
