He is a skilled actor. He has acted in more than 150 films in his career. He is a man with commanding presence, round face and sharp eyes. He married three times. His first wife is Harriet Marshal. He lived with her for 10 years from 1917-1927. Then he married Olive Emerson. He lived with her from 1929-1948. At last, he married Cleo McClain in 1951. He lived with her until his death. He had 3 children with Harriet. They are Elizabeth, Jane, and William. He has a great voice. He started his acting career on the New York stage.

He quit school at the age of 10. He worked as a newsboy, errand boy, and bellhop and boiler attendant in Columbia University. His mother died when he was 11 and his father passed away when he was 14. He starred in ABC Radio program Mr. President. He acted as Mr. Reynolds the lawyer in the show The Charlotte Greenwood. He was the anchor of spotlight show in Mutual. He entered the film industry in 1915 with Essanay.

At the age of 12, he made his first stage appearance. He played as Lorenzo in Merchant Of Venice. He made his professional stage debut in 1907. His debut film is ‘When the man speaks’. He is famous for his role as rogues and authority figures. He is popular for his roles in the movies Come and gets it, Sutter’s Gold, the toast of New York, Can’t take it with you, Mr. Smith goes to Washington, The devil, and Daniel Webster. At the age of 17, he acted in ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’. He was a popular actor between 1930s to 1940s in MGM, Paramount and Universal by specializing roles such as corrupt politicians and domineering tycoons. He was the host of the television serial ‘Your star Showcase’.

It ran in 1950 cities and is released by Television Programs of America. He also co-starred in ‘Ever since the day’. Edward Arnold was the President of Screen Actors Guild from 1940-1942. In 1940 he published his autobiography ‘Lorenzo Goes to Hollywood’. In the 1940s he became involved in Republican politics. Midwestern University awarded Arnold Doctor of Letters degree by on May 24, 1951. He was also a co-founder of ‘I am an American Foundation’. At the age of 66, he died at his home in California. He died due to cerebral hemorrhage with atrial fibrillation. He is interred at San Fernando Mission Cemetery in California.
