Kate Moss English Actress

Kate Moss

Kate Moss is a famous model of English origin. She is iconic for her status as an ‘Anti-Supermodel’ for being waifish & thin and popularising the ‘Size Zero’ style in the Fashion world in the 90’s. She went against the trend of being curvaceous & tall like her contemporary supermodels Cindy Crawford & Naomi Campbell. Kate was born on 16 January 1974, in Croydon of Surrey County, England. At the early age of just 13, her parents Linda Rosina (Shepherd) and Peter Edward Moss got divorced. She has a younger brother and a half-sister. She studied at Ridgeway Primary School and Riddlestown Collegiate in Purley. Kate started working at a very young age. She got noticed when she was 14 by Sarah Doukas, founder of Storm Model Management. She appeared in the campaign ‘Levis for Girls’ as a teenager, shot by famous photographer, Corrine Day. Kate later shot to fame in 1996 after posing as the iconic ‘Heroin Chic’ look for Calvin Klein. She had highlighted her slight figure, starting the ‘waif’ trend. Many people, especially Bill Clinton, criticised the look for looking as if she has an eating disorder. In spite of the criticism, Kate became the most sought-after model at that time and her professional career started to thrive. Chanel, Balenciaga, Burberry, Versace, Rag and Bone, Alexander Wang, David Yurman, Roberto Cavalli, Kerastase, Isabel Marant, Yves Saint Laurent, Dior, Gucci, Dolce & Gabbana featured Kate Moss in their ad campaigns. She has also been on the covers of many famous magazines including, but not limited to, Vogue, The Face, Vanity Fair and W. She featured in W 17 times and was later declared its ‘muse’ in the 2003 September issue. She also appeared on the covers of various versions of Vogue (including 30 times in just the British Vogue) and is also a contributing Fashion Editor in the British Vogue. Along with her modelling career, Kate is also infamous for her controversial personal life. She dated Johnny Depp in mid-90’s. In the early 2000’s, she was in a relationship with ‘Dazed and Confused’ editor, Jefferson Hack, with whom she has a daughter named Lila Grace Moss-Hack (b. 2002). After that, she married the Babyshambles lead singer, Pete Doherty, in 2007. Later that year, however, they split up. In 2011, she started to date Jamie Hince, guitarist of the rock band, The Kills and married him in 2015. Later, in 2016, she divorced him too. Currently, she is in a relationship with German Photographer Count Nikolai Von Bismarck. In 2006, Kate got accused of indulging in substance abuse in public. However, the allegations scrapped due to lack of evidence. During that time, many companies withdrew their contracts with her. She resumed her modelling career after the charges were scraped. That year, Kate won the Model of the Year at the British Fashion Awards, the top accolade in British fashion. She featured on the Millennium cover of American Vogue Magazine in 1999. A £1.5m, 18-carat gold statue of Kate Moss was unveiled in British Museum in 2008. In 2012, she came 2nd on the Forbes top-earning models list. Her estimated earnings for that year were $9.2 million. Arena Magazine named her the sexiest woman in its 150th issue. She posed nude for the 60th-anniversary issue of Playboy Magazine in December 2013. That same month, she bagged a Special Lifetime Achievement Award at the British Fashion Awards that acknowledged her contribution to fashion throughout her 25-year career. She has also appeared in many music videos for popular bands like Oasis and The White Stripes. Critics often regard Moss as one of the best pioneer models of all time.
