Olivia Newman is an American film director and screenwriter. She was born in Hoboken , New Jersey. Olivia has a B.A in French and woman studies from Vassar College and MFA from Columbia University , her debut film was a Netflix original named “First match’’ starring Elvire Emanuelle, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Colman Domingo and Jharrel Jerome , and was released in 2018. “First match” also premiered at SXSW Film Festival. Olivia’s first short film was Blue-Eyed Mary and was shown at the Portland Oregon Women’s Film Festival in 2010.
She also directed a 2022 feature film , Where The Crawdads Sing . She has won many awards, some of which are the Grand Prize at the New Jersey Film Festival , Jury Award at the Aspen Shortsfest , SXSW gamechanger and Audience Award at the SXSW Film Festival. She has also produced short films like Lucky Duck , The Runner and Storm Up The Sky. Olivia Newman has been active since 2010 – present.
