Jonathan Mostow took his birth on November 28, 1961, in Woodbridge, Connecticut, USA. Jonathan Mostow graduated from Hopkins School in Connecticut, and he went to the Harvard University next. After his graduation, he went for training at American Repertory Company and Lee Strasberg Institute. Soon after his studies, he didn't enter into the film industry. Previously, he did a few short films, documentaries and music videos.

He debuted as the director to Beverly Hill's Bodysnatchers in 1989. In 1991, he directed Flight of Black Angel. His 1997 film ‘Breakdown’ was a massive hit then. The plot construction and the screenplay convey the maturity of the director in the film industry. It is a commercial as well as the fan-entertaining picture. Though the movie has a tight story, the suspense in the first hour added to the interest in the climax. Jonathan Mostow and Hal Lieberman went into a deal with Universal and then, Mostow and Michel Douglas started a movie ‘U-571’. This film was based on the consequences of the Second World War. In spite of some issues, this picture hit the screens in 2000 and won an Oscar for Best Sound Editing and two other academy award nominations.

Soon, he directed the third sequel of ‘Terminator’; Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines. It released to the audience in 2003. Many critics said that they could easily differentiate between Cameron's Terminator and Mostow's Terminator. But he can be applauded for the continuation of the themes and ideas that appeared in the first two series. But the storyline is a bit weak. It was a magnificent and unexpected commercial hit.

Surrogates is the magnum opus of Jonathan Mostow's film career. One of the best comic books ever is the base for the story and the plotline. Though a part of the movie is highly sci-fi, this couldn't continue until the end. The actors too didn't attract the audience with their acting. The plot line is also noticeably slow which made the audience a bit disappointed. Jonathan Mostow's mastery in the field of direction is evident in his very first movie, and when he dared to take the third series of Terminator, anyone can understand his passion to be the best director. He also contributed for the movies House at the End of the Street and The Megas.
