Reinier Selen is a producer and production manager. He was born on August 2, 1972. He was born in Venlo, Limburg, Netherlands. He graduated from Kunstacademie St. Joost (St. Joost’s Art Academy) in Breda as a documentary director in 1996. He is the founder of Rinkel Film B.V. It was founded in 1996. In the coming years, Selen produced nine films for TV, which also includes the crime series Access Denied, and the award-winning feature films Blood Brothers and Off Screen. He commenced and produced Backslide in 2003, which reached Golden Film status within four weeks.
The film was sold to twelve other countries and won many awards including three Golden Calves. Selen took part in the creative writing programme at the Binger FilmLab in 2005. He attended the European EAVE Programme in 2006. Selen was a Golden Calf Jury member at the 2007 Netherlands Film Festival. He represented his country as at the 2008 Cannes International Film Festival ‘Producer On The Move’. The following led to Selen being invited to participate in the 2010 Producers Lab Toronto. In 2014 he was chosen for Inside Pictures established by Qwerty Films (UK) and created under the sponsorship of the National Film & Television School London, which is a recognized and expert training programme.
Selen is also a European Film Academy member. 3 new feature films from Rinkel Film were released in 2014: Love Eternal, Secrets Of War, and Accused. Accused had its premiere at the International Palm Springs Festival in California, USA, and was a finalist for the Academy Awards' Best Foreign Language Film. Meanwhile, Secrets Of War was screened at several honoured international film festivals, including the Chicago Children's Film Festival in the USA, the Toronto International Film Festival in Canada, and the Toronto International Film Festival in France. Moreover, SECRETS OF WAR has garnered several awards and recognition worldwide, including the Stony Brook Film Festival's Audience Choice-Best Feature Award in New York. 2 features, MAMMAL and BRAND NEW-U, were produced by Rinkel Film in 2015.
The former had its world premieres at the International Film Festival Rotterdam and the Sundance Film Festival in 2016. Moreover, it was also the recipient of the Santa Barbara Film Festival's Panavision Independent Spirit Award. BRAND NEW-U had its world premiere at the 2015 Edinburgh International Film Festival. It also had a screening at the L'Étrange Festival in Paris. In addition to that, it was chosen for the Rotterdam International Film Festival's Critic's Choice. A REAL VERMEER, RAFAËL, and SILK ROAD—3 new movies based on true stories—are the main projects of Rinkel Film.
