Sir Matthew Christopher Bourne, well known as Matthew Bourne, was born on 13 January 1960 Mackney, London, England. He is an English choreographer. His profession includes contemporary dance and dance theatre. He has achieved multiple awards and nominations, including The Tony awards, TheOliver award,and thedrama desk award. He was knighted in 2016 New Year honors for services to dance. Matthew went to William fit and sir George Monoux School in Walthamshow, London.He started training as a dancer at the age of 22. In 1999 he gave his performance playing the Private Secretary in the Broadway.
In 1978, Matthew left full-time education and worked in various jobs at BBC theatre agents and the national theatre. Despite having never done a dance class he directed various dance companies as a teenager. In 1987 enrolled at Lapan Centre for dance in Deptford, London, Where he graduated and dance theatre. Hesounded two more years with college performance company transition. After graduation, he established the Dance Company adventure in Motion Pictures with fellow directors and friends and his close friend Emma and David. He worked as a Professional choreographer and director since 1987, becoming soul artistic director of an AMPin 1991.
He is the only British director to win Tony awards for best direction of a musical and best choreography. he holds eight Oliver awards. He is the conscious artist. He has created several revivals of classic musicals such as My fair lady and South Pacific. After breaking box office records over an 11 week season, the production toured the UK, before International debut in Asia, and 6 month tour of the USA. In 2007, he contemplated gay version of Romeo and Juliet.His talent has been recognized by 30 International awards. In 2014 Matthew was awarded the prestigious de Valois award for outstanding achievements. He was the first person to be awarded the Stage award for outstanding contribution to British theatre. He was center of attraction of “South Barle show” in 1997 and1999 he presented Channel 4’s Dance 4 series.He is also a resident artist at Saddler Wells. He now resides in Islington,London, and Brighton.
