On August 11, 1980, Emily Hsiu-Ching Chang was born. She is a journalist, executive producer, and novelist from the United States. Chang is the host and executive producer of Bloomberg Technology, a daily TV show focused on global technology, as well as Studio 1.0, where she interviews prominent executives, investors, and entrepreneurs regularly. Chang is the author of Brotopia: Breaking Up the Boys' Club of Silicon Valley, a book that accuses the tech sector of misogyny and gender inequity. Chang was born in Kailua, Honolulu County, Hawaii, as Emily Hsiu-Ching Chang. Sandra Galeone Chang is Chang's mother. Chang's father, Laban Lee Bun Chang (died 2003), was a lawyer from Kaohsiung, Taiwan. Chang's sister's name is Sara. Chang received his high school diploma from Punahou School in 1998. She earned a B.A. in Social Studies from Harvard University in 2002.
Chang worked as a reporter at KNSD, an NBC station in San Diego, California, before joining CNN in 2007. She prepared stories for MSNBC and won five regional Emmy Awards while there. She began her career at NBC in New York as a news producer. Chang worked as an international reporter for CNN from 2007 to 2010, stationed in Beijing and London. She covered the 2008 Beijing Olympics, China's economic change and its environmental repercussions, the 2008 South China floods, the aftermath of the 2008 Sichuan earthquake, North Korea's nuclear ambitions, and President Obama's historical tour to Asia while in Beijing.
Chang joined Bloomberg Television in 2010. Chang became the host of Bloomberg West on February 28, 2011, the only network or cable TV show headquartered in San Francisco, California. Original reporting and interviews with tech newsmakers such as venture capitalists, CEOs, start-up entrepreneurs, and analysts are included on the daily show. Bloomberg Technology was rebranded in October 2016. Chang has conducted interviews with Tim Cook, Mark Zuckerberg, Sheryl Sandberg, former Google Executive Chairman Eric Schmidt, Twitter Co-Founder Jack Dorsey, former Disney CEO Bob Iger, Marissa Ann Mayer, and Alibaba Founder and Executive Chairman Jack Ma.
Chang has appeared in the HBO program Silicon Valley as herself, interviewing several characters. Chang has featured in six episodes throughout three seasons. She has received several accolades, including Emmy Awards, Business Insider's 100 Most Influential Tech People, on Twitter in 2014, the 2018 Salesforce Equality Award, and the 2019 11th Shorty Awards for Best Journalist (finalist).
