Rick Carter contributed through his skills in other creative ventures like Cast Away, Jurassic Park, What Lies Beneath, Avatar, Back to the Future part 2 and part 3 and war of the worlds. Movies like Avatar and Jurassic Park were massive successes and globally appreciated and applauded.

A large fraction of his films is directed by either Steven Spielberg or Robert Zemeckis. He won the Academy Award for best production design along Robert Stromberg and Kim Sinclair fir for Avatar. Avatar was the Critics Choice movie award that they received in 2009.

Rick Carter and Robert Stromberg also won the Saturn Award for best production design in 2009. In 2013, Rick Carter received his second Academy Award for Production Design for the biography on Lincoln, again directed by Spielberg.

In 2016, Rick Carter and Robert Stromberg won the Saturn Award for best production design once again. Carter, served as the production designer along with Darren Gilford, for the film Star Wars: Episode VII The Force Awakens.
