Robert Lawrence Leonard was born February 28, 1969, and an American actor who goes by the stage name Robert Sean Leonard. He is most recognised for his roles in the television series House (2004–2012) and the film Dead Poets Society as Dr James Wilson and Neil Perry, respectively. Leonard was born and raised in Ridgewood, New Jersey, and attended Ridgewood High School. He went to Fordham University and then Columbia University's School of General Studies to further his education. He studied drama at HB Studio. For his portrayal in The Invention of Love in 2001, Leonard earned a Tony Award for Best Featured Actor in a Play.
Candida, Long Da’s Journey Into Night, Breaking the Code, The Speed of Darkness, Philadelphia, Here I Come!, Arcadia, The Music Man, Born Yesterday, Fifth of July, and To Kill a Mockingbird are among his other theatre credits. Leonard garnered wide praise for his performance in Christopher Reeve’s television film In the Gloaming in 1997. Neil Perry, his role, is a young student whose desire to act is stifled by his father's rage and his parents' control over his life. While Robin Williams was nominated for an Academy Award, Leonard's performance was genuinely Oscar-worthy. As the new millennium began, Leonard’s work shifted. He turned to the television while still doing movies. He appeared in the television programs; The Outer Limits (1995) and Wasteland (1999), as well as in films such as Richard Linklater’s dramatic picture Tape (2001), James Caan’s A Glimpse of Hell (2001), and Sylvester Stallone and Burt Reynolds’ box office failure Driven (2001).
After a few more films, Leonard was cast in The House, the series that made him very popular. Leonard had a recurring role as Dr Roger Kadar on the television series Falling Skies from 2013 to 2014. In the film Swing Kids, he played Peter Müller, the lead character. Leonard portrayed King Arthur at the Westport Country Playhouse in Westport, Connecticut, in David Lee's production of the musical Camelot in 2016. He also played Jules/Bob in the Broadway revival of Sunday in the Park with George from February to April 2017.
