Iman Chakraborty

Iman Chakraborty is an Indian playback singer who is one of the few singers to have received a National Award for her debut song. She has always been surrounded by music, as her father was a Tabla player, and her mother was a singer. Since young, she learned music from her mother and also got fascinated by Rabindranath Tagore’s works. So, she wanted to become a singer and couldn’t think of any other profession as her future. An ardent fan of folk music and Rabindra Sangeet, Iman Chakraborty is a trained Hindustani Classical singer.

Iman Chakraborty did her Ph.D. on Satyajit Ray’s background score from Rabindra Bharati University. Iman Chakraborty approached Saregama label to produce her debut label. Under Saregama, her first album Bosh ted io Kacche released. The album had the songs of Rabindranath Tagore in the beautiful voice of Iman Chakraborty. The album had a great reach and appreciation from many. One such recognition was from music composer Anupam Roy   Anupam Roy is an Indian lyricist who worked for >> Read More... , who was impressed by one of the songs in her album and invited her to join the Bengali film Praktan. Written and composed by Anupam Roy, she sang the female version of the song ‘Tumi Jake Bhalobasho’ in 2016.

Upon release of the soundtrack, the song became an immense success, and Iman Chakraborty became a star in no time. The main reason the song became a success was that she could perfectly emote the pain in her voice. In 2017, she won the National Film Award for Best Female Playback Singer for the song and also became one of the few singers to receive the honor in their debut song. Besides National Award, she also won several accolades like Filmfare Award for Best Playback (Female) Bengali at Filmfare Awards East and Film Song of the year – Critic’s choice at the Mirchi Music Awards Bangla 2016.

Post the success of her first album, she released the song Monn in 2018. Iman Chakraborty got married to the music composer Nilanjan Das on 31st January 2021. Besides singing, Iman Chakraborty also appears as one of the mentors on Zee Bangla’s singing reality show Sa Re Ga Ma Pa. She had also debuted in acting with the short film ‘ Missing Missing is a mystery serial that aired on Sony TV >> Read More... ’ in 2020. She had further explored acting by featuring in the guest role in the movie Brahma Jaane Gopon Kommoti, where she played a housewife. Iman Chakraborty actively releases cover songs in her YouTube album.
