In 1984, she debuted in the Bengali film industry with the film Agnishuddi. In 1986, she debuted as an actress in the Bengali film Shyam Saheb. She also starred in Bollywood films.

Sagarika released her first album, Maa, in 1998. The same year, she debuted as a singer in the Assamese film industry with the film Joubone Amoni Kore. The song was not included in the film, but remains as her solo track for the film. In 1999, she crooned 2 songs for the Assamese movie, Morom Nodir Gabhoru Gaat, which is considered her debut in Assamese.
