Mostofa Sarwar Farooki is a contemporary Bangladeshi film director, producer, and screenwriter. He was born on May 2, 1973, in Dhaka, Bangladesh. Farooki is considered one of the leading figures to deliver modernism/realism in Bangladeshi Cinema, the one who has bridged the distance between escapism and truth.
Farooki is the pioneer of an Avant-garde filmmaker’s movement called Chabial. Along with some of his fellow filmmakers from Chabial, he created a new genre of Bangladeshi film theatre, quite different from traditional melodrama. Farooki’s first two films, Bachelor (2004) and Made in Bangladesh (2007), were inspirational.

His film Third Person Singular Number (2009) premiered at the Busan International Film Festival in 2009. This film earned Farooki a lot of prestige and fame. This film was a competitor in the Middle East International Film Festival held in 2009 in Abu Dhabi. His film Television, in 2012, was selected as the Bangladeshi entry for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 86th Academy Awards.
