Jahar Kanungo is a Bengali film and documentary Director and Producer. He shot to fame with his 2005 movie Nishhabd, for which he received many laurels as well.
Kanungo was born in 1946 in Chittagong which is in present-day Bangladesh. He is married to Lima Kanungo. He has worked as a travel and wildlife photographer. Kanungo has written travelogues as well as stories and plays for children which have been published in prominent Bengali literary journals. He has researched and made a documentary based on the tiger cult in Sunderbans, the largest delta in the world located in West Bengal. In addition to this, he set up his own company Kanungo Media Pvt. Ltd in 1993.

The film went on to receive a special mention in the Emile Guimet Award section at the Vesoul Asian Film Festival in 2006.
