Pramathanath Bishi was an Indian writer, an educationist, and a parliamentarian from West Bengal. He was a member of the West Bengal Legislative Council and a nominated member of the Rajya Sabha from1972 to1978. Bishi was born on 11 June 1901 at the Joan in Rajasthani, the son of Nalininath Bishi and Sarojbasni Devi. He studied for seventeen years in Brahma Vidyalaya IN Santiniketan, where he made known with Rabindranath Tagore. He passed his college from Santiniketan (1929) and took a long break going to complete the IA (1927) and BA honors in English from Rajshahi College (1927). He also took an MA in Bengal from Calcutta University (1932). He conducted his research on a Ramtanu Lahiri Research Fellowship (1933-1936).

Bishi’s career life, he joined Ripon College (1936-1946) and, after that, Calcutta University(1950) as a professor of Bengal. He became a professor and head of the department at Calcutta University. Bishi also worked as an editor of the Santiniketan and also an assistant editor of Anandbazar Patrika (1946 to 1949). He was a member of the West Bengal Bidhan Sabha (1962). Pramathanath Bishi was also a creative writer in manganese: poetry, satire, short story, Novels, dramas, and essays. He wrote under many names like Pranabi, Kamalakanta, Hattori, Bishnu Sharma, Amit Ray, Madhya, and Scot ThomsHis. his novel was published by Desher Shatru (1924), Padma (1935), Jodadighir Chaudhuri Paribar (1938), Keshabati (1941), Nilmanir Svarga (1954), Sindhudesher Prahari (1955), Carey Saheber Munsi (1958), Lal Kella (1963), etc. his short books included Shrikanter Pancham Parba (1944), Galper Mato Galpa (1945), Gali O Galpa (1945), Dakini (1945), Brahmar Hasi (1948), Nilbarna Shrgal (1956), Alaukik (1957).

His dramas are Rnang Krtta (1935), Ghrtang Pibet (1941), Mauchake Dhil (1945), and Government Inspector (1944). Bishi was awarded the Rabindra Puraskar (1960), Vidyasagar Smrti Puraskar (1982), and Jagattarini Puraskar (1983).
