Debshankar Haldar is counted among the most versatile actors in the Indian Film Industry. He has given a lot of incredible works after working extensively in the Bengali Film Industry. His other notable works include Cholo Potol Tuli (2020), Mahulbanir Sereng, and Mayamridango. He was born on 8 January 1965 in Kolkata, India. He was mainly raised in the former country only. Haldar’s father was Abhay Haldar, and his mother was a housewife. He also has one sibling, a brother named Amiya Haldar, who is also an actor in the Bengali theater group titled Bohurupee.

He did his schooling from one of the nearby places in his city and later attended University for higher studies. He went to the Scottish Church College at the University of Calcutta and graduated from there with a degree in hand. He had a keen interest in acting since his childhood and therefore, he became a part of a workshop named Nandikar for learning more about acting. With the period, he was deeply engrossed in the theatre world and decided to grasp more knowledge about that. Since then, he has been working in this line and has grown a lot.

Moreover, Deshbankar has been a part of numerous theatre groups like Nandikar, Rangapat, Natyaranga, Sudrak, Gandhar, Bratyajon, Sanskriti, and Blank Verse. He is considered as one of the senior trainers of his group, and has written, and directed more than 40 children's plays consisting of 'Bhalo Manush Noigo Mora' in association with the famous Nandikar's Children's Ensemble. Also, 'Topi' was his very first directorial venture which provided him vast attention from people worldwide and helped him in landing different projects. He has been a versatile personality in his career as he has played the role of several characters, for say, Debabrata Biswas in ‘Bratyajon’'s production ‘Ruddha Sangeet,’ Swami Vivekananda in Lokkrishti's Biley, and the historical theatrical figure Sisir Kumar Bhaduri in Indraranga's Nisshanga Samrat.
