This American crime drama show is about a man who can easily read the tiniest facial and body expressions. Cal Lightman uses that skill to expose the truth behind any lie. He teaches a course on body language, and he is very good at his job. He gets hired by many authorities, such as the police, for various investigations to go the extra mile to catch culprits and criminals. He makes a lot of money doing honest work with the police.

He became the world's leading expert on deception because of his skill in studying micro-expressions, body language, and acute deductive reasoning skills. Dr. Gillian Foster, his partner and best friend, helps him in investigating the truth behind several cases.

Dr. Gillian Foster, a behavioural psychologist, and Cal starts a consulting firm named The Lightning Group. They get hired by different kinds of clients and authorities, even the secret services in solving cases.

The two main leads have an amazing chemistry between them and gets closer as the show progresses. At the end of season two, Cal admits to his daughter that he loves Gillian but never acted on it.

Paul Ekman's work on facial expressions was the inspiration of this show. He is a specialist in facial expressions and is a professor at the University of San Francisco. The lead character, Cal Lightman, is inspired by Paul Ekman.
