This series shows the state of Mithila and Ayodhya, birth place of Sita and Ram respectively. Sita and Ram are two avatars of Hindu gods and goddesses who take a human birth. The story starts with their birth and early childhood and later shows their meeting and marriage. Sita, a responsible daughter gets married to Ram a righteous prince. When her husband is demanded to go through an exile of 14 years, Sita being a dutiful wife decides to follow him to the exile along with brother-in-law Lakshman.

They go through all sorts of hardships together in the exile but a much greater suffering awaits them. Sita gets abducted by the mastermind Ravana leaving Ram and Lakshman worried. They start a journey towards the kingdom of Ravana to save Sita while crossing many obstacles in their way. This epic mythological history is well depicted in this series.
