Tanha was a drama series which was telecasted by Star Plus. This series ran for a duration of 2 years starting from the year 1997 until 1999. The series was presented by India cooperatively with Pakistan. This series showed some famous actors from Pakistan in Indian Television. Top actors of Pakistan such as Sajid Hasan and Marina Khan were cast in the series.
It was Navid Antulan who created this series. The series was written by Haseena Moin, well-known for writing popular television series like ‘Dhoop Kinare,' ‘Ankahi’ in Pakistan. The title track lyrics were written by Javed Akhtar, and the music was given by Raju Singh. This dual country series received a lot of positive response from the audience. Sushma Seth was cast for the lead role in this series. She played the role of a Muslim woman by the name, ‘Shakeela Begum’. She, as a widow would strive hard to lead her family.
