Chandra Nandini is a period drama serial in Hindi that airs on the channel, Star Plus. Chandra Nandini is based on the life and love story of
Chandragupta Maurya, one of the most celebrated emperors of India and founder of the Maurya Empire. The story of the show revolves around Chandragupta Maurya’s life as a young prince. His initial days as the ruler of the Maurya Empire, stories of his courage and valor, his transformation into a ruthless ruler and amidst all these, his love life with his first wife, Durdhara, the daughter of his eldest maternal uncle, whom he married at a very young age.
However, the show portrays Dhana Nanda’s daughter, Nandini as Chandragupta Maurya’s wife. She was the first wife of Chandragupta Maurya and the mother of his only son, Bindusara. Bindusara went on to be the second emperor of the Maurya Empire after Chandragupta Maurya. The initial love-hate relationship between Chandragupta and Nandini and their bond later on, which leads to the rest of the great stories about Chandragupta Maurya, is what the story is all about.
The show also gives a sneak peek into Chandragupta’s relationship with his second wife, Helena, who he married at the age of 40. After being alone for a very long time after the death of his first wife, Chandragupta married Helena as a strategic alliance after defeating her father, Greek ruler, Seleucus Nicator. The show has given various dramatic twists to the story and made several changes to the original storyline to suit the palette of the audience.
