Plot
During the Second World War and the War of Indian Independence, Kumaran, a fisherman, was fighting to get back his brother from the British police. While Kumaran and his grandma were going by boat to meet his brother, a few people join them in the boat, as they were feared due to the Japanese bombardment against the British in India. As the bombardment was expected to happen near Vizag, and Kakkinandhiyavada, many tried to escape to Madras Presidency, resulting in severe disruption in normal life. When there is an imbalance in the boat, Kumaran revealed that as his boat is overcrowded, it is losing its balance. Soon, Irwin, a British officer joins them, making the boat too crowded. Though Kumaran stopped him boarding the boat, the officer used his power and boarded. Soon, the passengers found a hole in the boat. So, Kumaran asked Irwin to get down. But Irwin took his revolver and shot against Kumaran. The missed bullet created another hole, and the water started getting in. What will happen next? The rest of the story deals with this.
Star Performance
Yogi Babu is perfect in his role as Kumaran. Leela did justice to the given role. Chaams, Sha Ra, MS Bhaskar, Gouri, and Madhumitha did their parts well.
Analysis
The basic plot is interesting. There are too many subplots spoiling the main plot. Though the actors performed well, the logical loopholes suppressed the performances. Touted to be a survival drama, Boat failed to satisfy the expectations of the genre. The plot is interesting and the screenplay moves at a brisk pace. But, as certain scenes are not executed with logic, the audience may miss what they expected. The visuals are okay. The music is not up to the expectations.
