Everyone of us is aware of the hit ‘ Sholay’ and most of us have also seen it. The 1975 superhit still is on top of many hearts. Ram Gopal Varma Ki Aag is a remake of the film Sholay which starred the likes of Amitabh Bachchan, Dharmendra, Hema Malani, Jaya Bhadhuri, and the late Amjad Khan. Well, this one again features Amitabh Bachchan but this time around as the villain. The film was directed and produced by Ram Gopal Varma himself. The film also has Ajay Devgan, Sushmita Sen, Mohanlal and Prashant Raj Sachdev.

Ajay Devgan and Prashant Raj playe the role of Jay-Veeru in this remake. Sushmita Sen plays the role of Durga Devi. The legendary Amitabh Bachchan turns from hero to villain in this. He plays the role of ‘Gabbar’ which in this movie is known as Babban. Mohanlal plays the role of an inspector. Apart from the star cast, the film features Rajpal Yadav, Priyanka Kothari, Suchitra Krishnamoorthi, and Chakravarthy in the backgrounds. Abhishek Bachchan, son of Amitabh Bachchan, made a guest appearance. An item number ‘Mehbooba Mehbooba’ was performed by Urmila Matondkar, which won a lot of hearts. The song certainly did better than the movie as it received much criticism and failed massively on the big screen. Ram Gopal Varma was been fined 10 lakh rupees for the remake of Sholay without any authority.

Since all of us have seen Sholay, there is not much to say here. Ajay Devgan and Prashant Raj, aka Heero-Raj, are the bodyguards of a dirty politician. When they get caught by the police for assaulting a police officer, they are realized in Shambu’s deeds. Heero-Raj feels betrayed and decided to help the officers capture Shambu. The duo will be let go of if they agree to help the cops catch Shambu. The two are successful in getting Shambu arrested. They are also arrested and sentenced to a year in jail. After being released, the police inspector plans to recruit Heero-Raj for another capture, that of Babban Singh, who has killed his wife and son and also cut his fingers off. The two agree to do the job for a sum. They travel to Kaliganj, the place where Babban Singh resides. The two set themselves to capture Babban Singh; they plan the right trap also but, Babban Singh manages to escape. During this Raj falls for Durga played by Sushmita Sen, who is daughter in law of Narasimha. Heero, on the other hand, falls in love with Gungroo played by Priyanka Kothari, who is a rickshaw driver. Babban Singh on his mission to trace down the two starts to kill the people of Kaliganj. He continues to kill them until Heero-Raj surrender. Heero and Ghungroo are abducted by Babban Singh, and just when he is about to kill them, Raj comes to their rescue. While rescuing them, Raj falls into Babban’s trap and is killed. Heero and inspector Narsimha then combine to kill Babban. Amitabh Bachchan’s acting as Babban Singh is fantastic. The others have been above the par mark as well.

Well, if you have watched Sholay, then there is no need to watch this, but Amitabh Bachchan’s role is the one to watch.
