Alia Bhatt, who is a chirpy young girl hailing from Ambala, plans to journey to Delhi for the purpose of her marriage shopping. And yes you guessed it right. She meets a young guy Varun Dhawan, who is brought up in Delhi. Varun’s father, Kenny Desai, is the manager of a bookstore.

The unattainability factor itself makes Varun get more attracted towards Alia. He, along with his two best buddies, gets to know everything about her, and eventually the lead pair starts getting close.

There is the regular dislikes, quarrels, and everything…but still they are made for each other.

And then the twist comes….yes, Alia returns to Ambala as soon as her trip is over. She is clear that her father Ashutosh Rana would not accept her love for Varun. What happens next, with all its entertaining elements, form the rest of the story.

Star Performances

Varun Dhawan shines in his role as Humpty Sharma who leaving no stone unturned in getting the hands of his sweetheart, Alia. Alia, on her part, does an amazing job and oozes confidence throughout the film. In fact, this film can be considered as a milestone in her career. Ashutosh Rana and Siddharth Shukhla does a neat job.


The film has all the elements of a romantic film in place. Shashank, as said earlier, does his part well and keeps the pace going with his astute approach. He sees to it that the film is not immersed in melodrama. One may criticize the film for being very filmy but still it is not an issue since everything has been done to excellence by the director.

What’s there?

  • The scenes between Varun and Ashutosh will keep you hooked to the seat.
  • The lead pair is simply likeable. They have a refreshing chemistry.

What’s not there?

  • The fastidious critic may critique this film to be in the predictable lines.
  • The cinematography could have been better.
