Plot:
Mavis, the protagonist of the movie, has had a terrible time in her recent past. She has had a failed relationship because of which she finds herself struggling in her life. Out of despair, she starts missing her high school days, a time when she was among the most popular girls in school.Â
On her walk down the memory lane, she then starts recalling her ex-boyfriend and soon starts missing him. She decides to go back to her hometown Minnesota. She gets to know that her ex-boyfriend, Beth, is married and also has a baby. She tries all her might to get her high school love back.Â
The character of Mavis is pretty convincing and relatable. She represents the various levels of consciousness that everybody seems to have at some point of time or the other, whether it is a girl who is freshly out of school and is grappling for stability in life or someone who is exhausted with their present life and turn back to their past for some recluse.Â
Palton and Charlize have a remarkable chemistry and share some witty and funny dialogues. The movie is with its sets of dark humor and satire and is very relatable in its approach to life. There are moments in the film that would just make you smirk, but there are some that would make you laugh out loud.Â
This is the kind of movie that you will either love or will completely hate; there is no ‘in between’ sort of opinion for this. A story about a high school girl who is finding it rather hard to fare in the real life, this movie is entertaining and very realistic.Â
Verdict:Â
A one-time watch for all those who need a kind of assurance in life for just about anything because this movie is super relatable.
