In most of the romantic fantasies, the female characters appear as writers, fashion designers, and lyricist or as an innovative painter. Amanda Seyfried, the actress, is no exception. She comes in the movie as an aspiring writer.

Plot: The young American girl visits Italy and happens to come across a wall in which people have etched out their romantic grievances. A group of volunteers answers the questions by the sad lovers. Sophie happens to come across one peculiar grievance that forces her to trace its owner. Sophie answers the question by the letter’s author and motivates the author to find out her separated love. The rest of the scenes in the movie unfold such that both the lovers find out each other and at the same time discover a treasure trove of love. Claire follows the suggestion given by Sophie and goes in search of her separated lover. The separated lover is Lorenzo Bartolini, played by Franco Nero Francesco Clemente Giuseppe Sparanero, also known >> Read More... . Sophie feels deep inside that the real-life story of Claire would prove a fine material to be penned down. As the pair set out to find Lorenzo, they find out that there are many people by the same name. Then, they happen to mistake one Lorenzo for Claire’s lover. But, they find out that the particular person by name Lorenzo Bartolini is, in fact, dead. Claire is disturbed that her separated lover is dead.

The negative turn of events cause anger in Claire’s grandson Charlie and he accuses that Sophie is the reason for the pain. Also, he adds that Claire never had the capacity to sense pain. Claire defends Sophie by saying that Sophie suffered the loss of her mother at a very young age. Charlie apologizes, and love blossoms between Charlie and Sophie. The next scene unravels such that Claire and Sophie make one last attempt to find out Lorenzo. While on the search, Claire suddenly stops at a place. She gets a hunch and knocks at the door of a residence to find a young man opening the door. He resembles her long lost lover Lorenzo and comes to know that the man is her lover’s grandson. Both Claire and Lorenzo reunite. Charlie and Sophie enter the wedlock and lead a happy life. It appears like there is a deviation from reality. Sophie needs to make a decision, and it could have been realistic if there was some more life to the conflict in her. Vanessa Redgrave has done it well, and every scene in which she appears is sheer joy.

The movie is the right choice for those who are in search of a fairytale. But, even those lovers of far-fetched stories would fidget in their seats impatiently before the movie is over.

Verdict: The movie proves to be an average movie for the weekend.
