Plot
The story revolves around a group of poor Mexican immigrants who try to enter into the US illegally through the US-Mexican border with an uncertain life that they would have on the other side. The immigrants begin their journey on a truck, unfortunately the truck gets repaired and they need to make a walk under the scorching sun in the dessert. The route was not at ease as they expected it to be. On their way they were being rifle-toted by a lunatic man Sam accompanied by his hunting dog named Tracker. Whether they crossed the border successfully inspite of the obstacles on the way in the dry dessert to reunite with their family on the other side forms the crux of the story.
Star Performances
Gael Garcia Bernal heads the troop of poor Mexican people and suggests a plan to escape from the trap of unarmed men in the US- Mexican border in a hope to reunite with his family. He has just gelled with the character. Jeffrey Dean Morgan as a sociopathic man has given a good performance.
Analysis
The way the movie is presented is so realistic that you will get mesmerized with the characters on-screen. However, the movie has a thin screenplay. The ferocious dog named Tracker is apt with its character. The merciless gun shots by Sam (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) on the poor Mexican people make your heart beat fast. The music score by Woodkid elevates the story to a certain extent, giving it a new dimension. Unfortunately, the change of formula of the script is not up to the mark.
What is there?
1. The Mexican dessert captivates the audience by the work of Damian Garcia, the cinematographer of the film.
2. The portrayal of the character Jeffrey Dean Morgan needs a mention here.
3. The music score by Woodkid is quite good.
What is not there?
1. Most of the characters do not have a heavy performance to exhibit.
2. Predictable script.
Verdict
The story is interesting at the initial stages and as the time goes by it shrinks with predictable script and thin characters.
