Plot
Killer Heat is a film about a love triangle. However, what’s not ordinary about this love triangle is that there are two twins involved. Nick Bali, who is a private investigator, is hired by a woman named Penelope Vardakis to investigate the suspicious death of Leo, her brother-in-law. He supposedly fell to his death while he was on a solo rock climbing adventure. However, Penelope suspects that there were others involved in his death. Penelope hires Nick without her husband’s knowledge and tells Nick to dicreetly investigate the case because of how influential the Vardakis family is. They even have control over the local police. Elias is Penelope’s husband and Leo and Elias are twins. Although Penelope’s husband is Elias, Leo is the first one to fall in love with Penelope. Back when they were younger, Leo met Penelope at Oxford, and they became romantically involved with each other. Leo is the kinder twin of the two. One day, Elias arranges a study meeting for Leo with Penelope through a text, and as she expects Leo, Elias shows up in her room as Leo. The more Nick investigates this case, the more it puts his life in danger. Nick himself has unresolved family issues that constantly haunt him. The thoughts of his wife, who is having an affair, and of his daughter, are drowned out by drinking alcohol.
Star Performance
Shailene Wooodley acts with a lot of charisma in her performance as Penelope Vardakis.
Richard Madden plays both the the twins’ and succeeds in showing their contrasting personalities perfectly.
Analysis
The atmosphere of the film is intense because of the unresolved jealousy that is present throughout the film, which keeps building up. This atmosphere keeps the film engaging, and so do the twists. The noir aspect of the film is portrayed well, and the settings also go well with the theme. The writing was done well in revealing bits of facts and clues without giving away the whole truth about the case, keeping us on the edge of our seats. However one thing that’s missing in the movie is the tension between the brothers. There aren’t enough scenes that show that. We also don’t see the position Penelope is in when she has to choose one of the twins over the other.
