Plot

The movie is set in the year 1999. It is about two girls named Jamie and Marian. In the opening scene, a man sat at the bar with a briefcase. He was anxious. Suddenly, he started walking, and a bartender started following him. The man gets killed by bartender. The focus shifts to a couple named Sukie and Jamie. They had some fights, and evetually they broke up. Sukie throwed Jamie out. Jamie’s friend, Marian, was planning a trip to Florida. Jamie decided to go with her. On the trip, they got another cab by mistake. It was also destined for Florida. The cab belonged to Arliss, Flint and Chief. Later, they figured out that the cab was exchanged. Jamie and Marian found a briefcase in the car. On their way, Jamie constantly asked Marian to stop at a sex club before going to the hotel room. On entering Florida, their car got a flat tire. They discovered the suitcase. It had dildos and Santo’s head.

When they entered the room, Jamie urged Marian to have sex and get pleasure. The following day, too they used dildos from the briefcase. That moment the gansters got in the room and held them at gunpoints. The dildo was a model of Channel’s penis. In a lesbian bar Jamie and Marian met Channel and exchanged one million dollar for dildo.

Star Performance

The main characters of the script are Marian and Jamie. Margaret Qualley played Jamie's role in the film. Margaret gave an impressive performance throughout the movie. Margaret’s presence made the storyline more fun. Jamie’s character was an outgoing and interesting one. Margaret handled it very well. Geraldine Viswanathan played Marian’s character. Geraldine delivered a nuanced performance. Her acting skills were bold and solid. Her chemistry with the supporting cast was also good. She fit in Marian’s role. Geraldine positively impacted the movie.

Another important character in the movie is Sukie. Beanie Feldstein played her character. She delivered an impressive role. Her role was limited on the screen, but she handled her character well. The supporting cast includes Colman Domingo, Pedro Pascal, and Bill Camp. They all did a great job.

Analysis

The movie Drive-Away Dolls could be better. The filmmakers claim the film to be a comedy, but the script lacked comedy. It had slapstick comedy, which was not laughable. The execution of the film was okay. The characters of the movie were average. Some actors overacted and some under-acted. But overall, the main and the supporting cast did great work in the film.

The cinematography of the film was good. As the movie is set in 1999, the locations used in the movie were good. The soundtracks used in the film were enjoyable. The sound effects used are good, too. The film’s duration was perfect, but the pace was not good. The script was predictable, too and it lacked thriller and action. It made the movie boring.

What’s There?

  • The execution of the film was good.
  • The primary and supporting cast gave impressive performances.
  • The soundtracks used in the film were excellent.
  • The movie also has impressive cinematography. The locations used were good.
  • The pace of the film is perfect.

What’s Not there?

  • The characters used in the film were fine.
  • The script of the movie was predictable and boring.
  • The film lacks comedy and thriller.

Verdict

If someone doesn’t like sexual jokes and activities should not watch this movie. It is not a family centric film. It also lacks thriller and comedy. So, one can skip this movie.
