Many boxing movies have been produced in Hollywood but to tell the truth only few manage to carve a niche for themselves. Creed is one such movie and it is loyal to the movies Rocky franchise. And behold! Rocky series is not complete without the presence of the dynamic Sylvester Stallone Sylvester Stallone is a famous American artist, sc >> Read More... . But this time around Stallone doesn’t get involved in the punches; he dons the role of a coach. Well, how can we expect a man in his late 60s to do the actual punches?

Plot

Michael B Jordan’s mother passes away at his young age and the movie introduces him in a juvenile hall.Jordan feels that he was born for boxing and hence tries to work on that.  His father had died before his birth and he was a boxing superstar. Jordan eventually goes to Philadelphia and gets associated with his dad’s old friend. Well, you heard it right. The movie then goes in predictable lines.

Just like the earlier movies of this series, Creed has its share of training, braving against all odds and the love element.

Star Performances

Stallone is the show stealer (there are also negative shades in his character) and without him the movie would have been incomplete; his character is so essential in this movie. He emotes well and the one-liners he use will strike the right chord with the audience. Jordan  has also done a neat job and deserve applause like Stallone.

What’s there?

  1. The storyline of the movie deserves special mention.
  2. Though the movie is loyal to the previous versions of the series, there are certain tweaks that are made to make it look refreshing.
  3. The way in which the relationship between Stallone and Jordan is told is commendable.
  4. The boxing sequences will strike the right chord with the audience.
  5. The movie will suit any generation and it has a relevant theme.

What’s not there?

For those who expect this movie to be the best of Rocky movies it can at most be labeled as a true entertainer. Well,  the best is always tested!

Analysis

Creed is the seventh film in the boxing series. It has hit the screens after 39 years of Stallone’s original Rocky in 1976. The chemistry between Sylvester Stallone and Michael B Jordan is perfect. Rylan Coogler, the director (he debuts in this movie) has done a wonderful job and the movie is par excellence. Boxing being the main theme the movie focuses on it in a convincing manner. To be precise, it doesn’t derail from its path. We would have been fond of certain good elements in the Rocky series and Creed has everything intact. One can very well connect with Jordan and pray in between the scenes that he would succeed.

Verdict

Though you may not like boxing movies you can surely watch this for Sylvester Stallone.
