The 63rd
National Film Awards
event was held on Tuesday and the President Pranab Mukherjee was giving away the awards for the winners. Except one eminent recipient, everyone was present at the event. It is none other than Maestro “Ilayaraja.” Ilayaraja was announced as the Best Music Composer in the National Film Awards for his work in “
Thaarai Thappattai
” which is his 1000th film. Ilayaraja has received the National Awards thrice for Best Music direction for the films, “Sagara Sangamam,” “
Sindhu Bhairavi
” and “
Rudraveena
.” When asked about his absence at the National Film Awards, he says, “What is the meaning of giving me an award for Best Music Direction – Background Score, and M. Jayachandran an award for Best Music Direction? It not only means that I have done an incomplete job as music director but also implies that only half of my work is good. It means that the committee now encourages music directors to do half the job.” He also says that bifurcation of awards leads to pollution.
