These days a new trend has emerged on the OTT, especially for Kannada films. Most of the Kannada films are struggling to get a proper OTT platform, and some of the films that were released on OTT were surprisingly struck off. Recently, Rakshit Shetty’s film ‘Sapta Sagaraadche Ello – Side B’ was removed from Amazon Prime Video after two months of its digital run.
Some think that Kannada films are being discriminated against. However, Kannada superstar Kichcha Sudeep has a different take.
In an interview, Sudeep mentioned that the Kannada industry is not the only one affected by this trend, for other regions are facing the same problems. In the end, what matters is the quality of the film, and how the audience responds to them. There will be ups and downs, and the makers should understand the changing times, and make movies accordingly.
Kichcha Sudeep is not wrong either. After a highly successful year which was 2022, Kannada cinema has struggled to maintain the momentum. While 2024 has not been as disastrous as 2023, it has not reaped rich rewards either. As such, Sudeep’s mantra for Kannada creators is crystal clear – Perform or Perish!
