Remakes- A Success And A Failure

Remakes are very common in the Kannada film industry. This is widely accepted by Sandalwood, because it is like ready-made food. We often find a lot of people who completely copy the scenes of movies of other languages to their films. This culture is not only limited to the Kannada cinema. Serials in the Kannada television also follow the remake culture. Presently, most of the serials which are being aired on Kannada television are a remake of Hindi serials.

The only difference between serials and films is that serial directors are more sensitive to the audiences’ needs than the film directors. It is obvious that the Hindi audiences’ thinking will differ from what the Kannada audiences expect from a serial or a film. Overacting scenes, like a hero stopping the train with one hand, or one person fighting against twenty people and winning, are all not realistic. These sequences don’t attract Kannada audience. They expect more realistic stuff. Serial directors have realized this and when they are remaking a serial, they modify the scenes according to the audiences’ needs. Movies on the other side copy every scene without any changes, and as a result, will see a downfall. Approximately 70% of the movies, which were remade from other languages, have seen a major downfall, whereas all the serials which are remade are still running successfully! 3. Nagini

“Nagini”, which is being aired on the channel, Zee Kannada, is a remake of “Nagini” on the channel, Colors TV.

4. Sriman Srimati

“Sriman Srimati”, which is being aired on the channel, Zee Kannada, is a remake of “Bhabhi Ji Ghar Par Hai” on the channel, &TV.

“Ganga”, which is being aired on Zee Kannada, is a remake of “Ganga” on the channel, &TV. Having said this, we cannot say that the non-remake serials are a flop. However, 90% of the serials, which are remade. do run more successfully in the Kannada television, unlike the film industry, where most of the remake films don’t see much success.
