Sholay had many iconic dialogues. The dialogues are still, performed by many on stage and there are also many memes on the internet filled with it. Even when one of the stars goes for an event, they are requested to say a dialogue from the film.
Sholay had a variety of songs. 'Yeh Dosti' describes an everlasting friendship, 'Holi Ke Din' shows the celebration of the festival Holi, 'Mehbooba Mehbooba' is a sensuous song performed by Helen Jairag Richardson. Every song is situational and very well picturised.
The movie also showcases the bond of friendship between the characters, Jai and Veeru and they have set some serious friendship goals for us. Jai was a calm headed, introvert person whereas, Veeru was a flirty, mischievious one. And the fact that they were so different made their pairing even more interesting. They teased and played pranks on each other, but when the time came, they were even ready to risk their life for each other.
The film also showed two very different love stories. One was between Dharmendra and Hema Malini and the other between Amitabh Bachchan and Jaya Bachchan. The former had a fun relationship where the guy flirts with the girl and try any means to woo her, but the latter had a simple, sweet story where they used to steal glances at each other with a melodious tune in the background.
Critics gave negative reviews to the film, but it became a huge success through positive word of mouth. It is in fact, one of the highest grossing films of Bollywood and it also had one of the longest theatrical runs.
Sholay had many unique and different characters. But apart from the main characters, there were also many minor characters which appeared on the screen. Be it Jailor, Rahim Chacha or Kalia, even they were loved and became the memorable characters of the film.
