: The Salman Khan Foundation' is a charity that was founded by Salman Khan with the aim of helping the underprivileged. This trust works mainly in two areas: Education and Healthcare. He supports three schools and has helped facilitate the heart surgery for over 600 children. His shows, his paintings and the official apparel line of Being Human gives the financial aid to his foundation.
The actor had mentioned that 'Being Human: Salman Khan Foundation' is an inspiration from his parents. Being Human: Salman Khan Foundation has joined hands with the Marrow Donor Registry India (MDRI) since November of the year 2010 and aids them in maintaining an international list of marrow donors for people suffering from diseases relating to blood such as thalassemia, leukaemia, aplastic anaemia and congenital immunodeficiency states.
MDRI and Salman Khan's Being Human has worked together with the youth through collaborations with some top colleges to make the youth realise the importance of a registry for India. Salman Khan even pledged to donate his own bone marrow to spread awareness on stem cell donation. He kept this pledge by donating his bone marrow to a little girl named Pooja who was in need of a marrow transplant.
In November 2010, Salman Khan pledged his support to the ‘Child Labour Free India Campaign' spearheaded by Bachpan Bachao Andolan. He is a committed and a regular visitor in the hospitals to meet cancer patients and he encourages them on different occasions. He has joined ‘The Maximize Life’ campaign and has offered his support and pledge towards the cancer patients. Indeed, when it comes to benevolence, Salman Khan’s name appears as number one.
When it comes to charity, Shah Rukh Khan is not far behind. In fact, he does not like to beat the drums about his charity and yet the list of his works is too long to sideline it. SRK has been closely associated with ‘Make a Wish’ Foundation. The foundation helps to make the wishes of people suffering from fatal diseases come true. Shah Rukh Khan has also been involved in doing concerts and interviews to help out various NGOs.
SRK was made the first ever UNOPS global ambassador. UNOPS helps in improving the basic living conditions of the needy. He has also been honoured by UNESCO for all the charity he does and is the primary Indian to have gotten this recognition.Another aspect of SRK’s generosity is his goodwill toward his colleagues and every member of the film industry. One example can be seen right at his firm Red Chillies Entertainment. SRK even goes a step ahead by sharing his additional profits with his employees, example being when he shared a majority of the profits made from the film “Om Shaanti Om” among his colleagues as bonus pay. The 10 × 10 Foundation was initiated by The Documentary Group’s journalists along with the Vulcan Productions by Paul G. Allen and the Intel Corporation.
The foundation functions with leaders and visionaries of prominence, in support of the girl child education. It gives life altering aids to the females. The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) aids 190 nations in improving the lives of the children by giving them proper health facilities such as nutritious food, portable water, general hygiene, good education and other such things. Besides this, she has supported six other causes such as Health, Human Rights, Poverty, Slavery & Human Trafficking.
Aishwarya Rai Bachchan has pledged to the Eye Bank Association of India to donate her eyes. She also runs her very own ‘Aishwarya Rai Foundation’ to aid the poor. In 2009, international organization ‘Smile Train’ made her their Goodwill Ambassador. Smile Train gives free palate and cleft lip surgeries to children from poor families. She received an honorary award at the Miss World 2014 function held in London for her charity work since her own crowning of Miss World in 1994.
The list will be incomplete without mentioning John Abraham. John is a campaigner PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) India. He actively supports all their campaigns. He also works with the foundation, ‘Habitat for Humanity’ and helps them to get finances for the people of low-income in India to build a safe and decent house for them. John Abraham was seen recently at 'Gift a Smile' program, an event organized by Amazon.in along with the Charities Aid Foundation India. The actor distributed gifts to the children. He also wants to start a charitable organization for the people suffering from cancer. He wants to fulfill his mother's dream by doing so.
Shilpa Shetty loves animals and is also a member of PETA. The actress is also a member of the anti-bullying cause, Act Against Bullying. It helps victims of bullying and offers realistic insights to them. Other charities and foundations supported by Shilpa Shetty are Shilpa Shetty Foundation, CRY, Silver Star and Heroes Project.
Amitabh Bachchan, the Big B of Bollywood, is well-known for his philanthropy. He has played a vital role in the polio campaign of UNICEF. He has made an online site, ‘Jenaration’, that provides a platform for bidding on clothes donated by celebrities and the funds raised from that go to charities. He has also requested the Uttar Pradesh government to give away the monthly pension of fifty thousand rupees to charity, awarded to, Jaya and Abhishek as part of the Yash Bharti awardees.
Vidya Balan is a humanitarian at heart. She is nominated currently as the Drinking Water and Sanitation Campaign’s ambassador by the Rural Development Minister.
Dia Mirza has always been active along with the government of Andhra Pradesh, in helping them to spread awareness about HIV as well as stop female foeticide. The actress supports social organizations such as Cancer Patients Aid Association, PETA and CRY and presently works as the green environment campaign’s spokesperson.
