Bollywood Movies That Got Charged With Copyright Cases

Movies landing up with copyright issues are not new to the Bollywood industry. Many times the makers of the film fail to check the authenticity of the story and the plot, which makes them land into a bundle of summons from the court. From 1982 till 2016 there have been many scopyright infringement cases in the Bollywood industry. Here is a list of some uch films:

1. Satte Pe Satta

The movie earned an average income at the box office. To a great shock, the key plot was copied from the 1942 Hollywood movie Seven Brides and Seven Brothers.

3. Ek Chhotisi Love Story

Shashilal Nair directed the film in 2002. The movie was a doppelganger of the 1998 movie “A Film About Love”. From the story to every scene, the similarity between the two films could be clearly seen.

4. Ra One

SRK’s home production film, which was apparently a token of love for his kids landed into big trouble when Mr. Yash Patnaik dragged him to the court in the copyright infringement case. A sum of 1 crore had to be deposited by the Red Chilies Production to the court before the release of the film.

In 2008, writer Shyam Devkatte emailed the story to the Eros International company. When the movie was released, he found the similarity between the plot and his story, thus using the story without the consent of the writer. The makers of the film had been issued with a bailable warrant.
