Amala is initially known as Amala Mukherjee was born in Kolkata, West Bengal, to a Bengali father who served as a Naval Officer and to a mother who belonged to the nation of Ireland. Amala is a trained Bharatanatyam dancer and has also attained the Bachelor's degree in Fine Arts, from Kalakshetra College of Fine Arts. She has been a good performer of Bharatanatyam and has performed worldwide live. Vijaya Thesingu Rajender, a Tamil film actor, director, composer, screenwriter, cinematographer, producer, playback singer, and a law expert, convinced Amala’s mother to permit her to begin her career as an actress and that he will cast her in a dance based film, where her Bharatanatyam skills will get exposure.

' Akkineni Nagarjuna', a Telugu film actor, married Amala. The couple gave birth to a son named ' Akhil Akkineni', who is also an actor. Amala is also the step-mother of ' Naga Chaitanya', who also is an actor. As an individual, Amala often regrets that she is unable to speak Telugu.

"Mythili Ennai Kaathali" was the debut Tamil film of Amala, which was directed by Vijaya Thesingu Rajender, and it received a great response to the Box Office, the audience appreciated it very much. The movie gained her popularity and fame and then she played roles in more than half a century films, which includes some blockbuster Tamil films too. She even acted opposite her husband Akkineni Nagarjuna in a few movies such as " Nirnayam" and " Siva". She bagged the Filmfare Award for Best Actress-Malayalam, after her lead role in " Ulladakkam". Post marriage, she stopped taking up roles, but in 2012, she made a comeback with a Telugu film "Life is Beautiful", this helped her to earn the Filmfare Award for the Best Supporting Actress-Telugu and CineMAA Award for the Best Outstanding Actress.

As an actress, Amala worked in almost all categories of films- Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, Hindi, and Malayalam. She played the role of Rohini in "Humari Adhuri Kahani", a 2015 Box Office hit. She even co-starred Aditya Pancholi in the 1988 movies, " Dayavan" and "Kab Tak Chup Rahungi". In 2010, she also judged a reality show titled, ' Super Mom', in Tamil, screened on STAR Vijay. In 1988, she made her debut in Kannada films opposite Kamal Hassan, in a movie titled " Pushpaka Vimana". While she made her Malayalam debut, opposite Suresh Gopi, in 1991, in a movie named, "Ente Sooryaputhrikku".

Besides her work in the film industry, Amala is an animal welfare advocate and also the co-founder of an NGO in Hyderabad, India, named The Blue Cross of Hyderabad for the conservancy of animals and its well-being.

She married Akkineni Nagarjuna, who is a Telugu Film Actor, in the year 1992. The couple gave birth to a son in the year 1994 and named him Akkineni Akhil.

She also has a step son named Naga Chaitanya. The family currently lives in Hyderabad. Once being interviewed by “The Hindu,” she confessed that her biggest fear is not “Walking the Talk” where social issues are concerned as she is a social activist. She has also accepted that her biggest regret in life is that she cannot speak Telugu fluently. Her debut film was “Mythili Ennai Kaathali” which was well received by the audience. She did 50 films which were huge blockbusters. She has co-acted with her husband in the movies like “Nirnayam” and “Siva.”

Sree Mukhi is one of the several celebrities who have made a successful transition from small screen to films. She first faced the camera nearly three years ago and admitted that she has definitely travelled a long journey, to transform herself from an introvert teenager to discovering her feet in the television industry and movies. Her full name being Sreemukhi Rathod, she is a student of BDS. She has a beautiful family with her father being a retired government employee, her mother being a beautician and a brother who is pursuing B. Tech. Her first big break was as a TV anchor through the show “Adhurs”, it was her elegance and distinction that paved the way for her in the movie industry. In an interview, she recalls how the TV crew approached her mother nearly three years ago, as she says, "I was spotted by a TV crew when they came to shoot a program at my native place. My mother is a beautician, and after the TV crew approached my mother and evinced interest in me, she finally got convinced. I was a shy kid, and I never thought I would be part of this industry,” However, as every path offers some hurdles, Sree Mukhi also faced some difficulties before coming up into the Television industry. It took her more than six months when she could accept the offer as her father was reluctant of her in joining the industry. She recalls how the director of an established TV channel had to persuade her father for six months until one day he finally said yes after much convincing from her mother. In the year 2015, Sree Mukhi played one of the lead roles in Prema Ishq Kadhal and had also acted in movies like ‘Julaayi’ and Life Is Beautiful. We will see more of Sree Mukhi in the upcoming years as she will be a part of three movies which include ‘Chandrika’, Nadhi Theeram and another Tamil film, Ettuthikkum Madhayaanai. However, she confessed in an interview that TV will always remain her first love.
