Amala is initially known as Amala Mukherjee was born in Kolkata, West Bengal, to a Bengali father who served as a Naval Officer and to a mother who belonged to the nation of Ireland. Amala is a trained Bharatanatyam dancer and has also attained the Bachelor's degree in Fine Arts, from Kalakshetra College of Fine Arts. She has been a good performer of Bharatanatyam and has performed worldwide live. Amala (Amala Mukherjee) was born on 12 September,1968, in Kolkata, West Bengal, India. By profession, she is a social activist and a Bharat Natyam dancer. She is popular for her works in Tamil Cinema and also in Telugu Cinema. She has also done some Malayalam, Kannada and Bollywood movies. She did her graduation from Kalakshetra College of Fine Arts which was established by Rukmini Devi Arundale. After her graduation, she used to do live performances all around the Globe. It was T. Rajender, who asked her to join and act in films. He visited Amala’s house with the offer to act in his next film which was entirely based on Bharat Natyam. She married Akkineni Nagarjuna, who is a Telugu Film Actor, in the year 1992. The couple gave birth to a son in the year 1994 and named him Akkineni Akhil.
She also has a step son named Naga Chaitanya. The family currently lives in Hyderabad. Once being interviewed by “The Hindu,” she confessed that her biggest fear is not “Walking the Talk” where social issues are concerned as she is a social activist. She has also accepted that her biggest regret in life is that she cannot speak Telugu fluently. Her debut film was “Mythili Ennai Kaathali” which was well received by the audience. She did 50 films which were huge blockbusters. She has co-acted with her husband in the movies like “Nirnayam” and “Siva.”
