SD Ganesh was born on July 17, 1992, to Shanmugam and Yamunarani. A native of Chennai, SD Ganesh did his schooling in P.A.K. Palanisamy Higher Secondary School in Chennai. He attended V.Ramakrishna Polytechnic College and completed his Bachelor’s in Mechanical major. SD Ganesh is happily married to Dharshini in 2018, and the couple has a daughter named Lakshika and a son named Pranav. SD Ganesh’s career started as a Video Jockey. He worked in many television channels as an anchor and also interviewed many celebrities. His mimicry talent is a cherry on the cake as he got identified by many for his voice imitation as actor Surya. He also did a voiceover for cartoons and shows. As an actor, SD Ganesh’s journey began with the Star Vijay serial PuthuKavithai in 2013 in a minor role.

In 2015, he appeared in Zee Tamil’s show Priyasaki. SD Ganesh got his breakthrough through the popular Sun TV show Kuladheivam. He portrayed a negative role for the first time as ‘Fresh’ Praveen. The character gave him immense popularity. Following the negative role in Kuladheivam, SD Ganesh next played a grey-shaded role in the blockbuster hit Sun TV show Roja. In Jaya TV’s Gopurangal Saivathillai, SD Ganesh acted in the character Karthik who is the main antagonist of the serial. In 2019, SD Ganesh starred in the Star Vijay’s drama Siva Manasula Sakthi, a remake of Tu Sooraj Main Saanjh Piyaji. His role as a loverboy named Siddhu received much love from the audience. In 2020, he featured in SUN TV’s AnbeVaa as Ashok.
