Gajaraj

Gajaraj is an actor, known for appearing in Tamil movies like Onaayum Aattukkuttiyum (2013), Kabali (2016), and Iraivi (2016). Gajaraj always appears in brief roles and it is said that his interest in acting was inherited from watching Sivaji Ganesan and MGR’s films. In the film Kabali, he plays the role of Marthandam, Kabali's teammate in young age but later works for Gang '43'. This actor also has starred in brief roles in Tamil movies like "Mundasupatti" and "Rajini Murugan". Gajaraj also starred in his son's second directorial "Jigarthanda" and in his upcoming Tamil multi-starrer drama "Iraivi". Gajaraj is the father of filmmaker Karthik Subbaraj. Gajaraj belonged to Madurai and it is believed that his whole family is Rajinikanth’s fan. It is said that actor Kalaiyarasan has suggested Gajaraj’s name for ‘Kabali’ and Gajaraj actually had shot for the film for nearly 30-days and he has a minimum of overall 15–minutes in the film. To a question asked by media to him, how was his experience while acting with the superstar, Gajaraj said he cannot really express the feeling in words at all. In his family, everyone sees every movie of Rajinikanth at least three times. It is said that his son Karthik Subbaraj is an engineer and used to take part in drama and stages during his college days. His son also has written many scripts and won medals too for his acting performance in college days. Since, his son had a unique interest in acting, after five years of service in the engineering field, the actor took up cinema as his passion. For his son’s upcoming movie ‘Iravai’, he shot for three days only and played the role of father. It seems Gajaraj has begged for some role in his son’s movie ‘Iravai’ and given even audition too. Karthik Subbaraj even once associated with short films and got applause too. When his son wanted to enter the film industry, the father Gajaraj was a sceptic as there is no support for the son in the film industry. Karthik has done 15 short films and he has written the story for low-budget film ‘Pizza’. His son directed Jigarthanda, and got applause from Thalapathy Vijay and filmmaker Mani Ratnam. Gajaraj wished even his son gets a chance to face screen presence with superstar Rajinikanth. Gajaraj says Rajinikanth is a down-to-earth person and he mixes with each of his fans in public meeting. While Rajinikanth acted as Kabaliwaran, the head of Malayalam Gangster Group '00', his young team mate Gajaraj shifted his priority to Tony Lee, Industrialist, businessman, and head of Malaysian Gangster group '43'. This film Kabali was directed by Pa. Ranjith. This film Kabali is known for punched remarks and who can forget the dialogue uttered by the superstar to Gajaraj in a scene that brought many applause – ‘’Nalla Saapudunga Marthandam! Ukkarunga!” with applied sarcasm.
