Alex

Alex was a South Indian actor and magician who worked for the Tamil film industry. He was born in 1959 and died on 1st May 2011 in Chennai. He was part of more than one hundred Tamil movies like Summa Irunga Machan, Super Kudumbam and others. Alex died due to liver problems at a private hospital in Chennai. He left behind his wife and two daughters. He held an office at the South Indian Film Artistes’ Association. He made it to the Limca Book of Records and the Guinness Book of World Record for performing a magic show for 24 hours without any breaks. Alex started his acting career in the Kollywood movie industry with the feature film Valli written and produced by the South Indian superstar Rajinikanth. The movie hit the silver screens on 20th August 1993. He then appeared in Aranmanai Kaavalan directed by Selva Vinayagam, which hit the screens on 25th February 1994. He also appeared in the flick Thamarai directed, produced and written by K. K. Rajsirpy. He played the role of Parisal in the feature film. The Kollywood movie hit the film halls on 19th August 1994. He acted in the musical flick Avatharam written, directed and starring Nasser. The Tamil film hit the theater halls on 9th June 1995. He appeared in Kizhakku Mugam written and directed by M. Anna Thurai. He acted as Kannapan in the movie. The film hit the movie halls on 15th January 1996. Alex was part of the Tamil movie Mitta Miraasu directed by Kalanjiyam. He plays the negative role of Misaliman in the film. The flick hit the cinema halls on 10th October 2001. He achieved the Tamil Nadu State Film Award under the Best Villain category in 2001 for this role. He acted in the devotional flick Thaalikaatha Kaaliamman directed and co-written by R. Somasunder. He portrayed the character of Nattamai in the motion picture. The Kollywood movie hit the cinema theaters on 16th February 2001. Alex played a part in the Kollywood flick Kovilpatti Veeralakshmi written and directed by K. Rajeshwar. The social drama movie hit the big theaters on 4th July 2003. He won the Tamil Nadu State Film Award under the Best Male Character Artiste category in 2003 for his role. Alex acted in the neo-noir flick Kanthaswamy written and directed by Susi Ganeshan. He played the role of Pichumani in the vigilante movie. The thriller film hit the screens on 21st August 2009.

Darbuka Siva

Darbuka Siva is a famous self-taught Indian musician, drummer, percussionist, music producer, actor and radio jockey. He was born on 13th March 1982 in North Chennai. He was critically acclaimed for his musical projects "Yodhaka" and" La Pongal". Siva was seventeen when he started learning drums and percussion. His professional career began when he joined the Bengali Baul band "Okiyotaan" in 2002. It also meant the end of his college education as he had to skip exams to perform. In 2003, Siva formed his band with singer Tanvi Shah called "Zahrra" which performed music from all over the world including Arabic, Cuban, African and South American. He was one of the few who played the Darbuka and thus the moniker. Siva formed "Yodhaka" in 2005 as an experimental band that performed classical music with contemporary approach which soon evolved into Sanskrit shlokas layered with world music. In 2007 he joined Radio Mirchi where he hosted "Naatupura Beatu", a show on Tamil folk music which inspired Siva’s next project, La Pongal in 2010 a platform for contemporary folk music where traditional Tamil folk musicians performed alongside contemporary music. La Pongal released its first album in 2012 featuring over seventy musicians. In 2012 he also worked on a music travelogue series on Pudhu Yugam Channel featuring music from musically rich parts of India particularly Rajasthan and Goa. He received TEDx Chennai Star Award and a fellowship with the Ink Fellows Program in the same year. In 2013 Siva took a short break which ended when "OneBea"t, a US Department project, selected him among twenty-five musicians for residency at Atlantic Center for Arts, Florida and a tour of the East Coast, US. In 2014, Siva played the role Nuisance Ganesh, a delusional news reporter for Radio City for a short period before signing the contract for his first film "Rajathandiram" as an actor. In 2015 Siva commenced Darbuka Siva bro’ject where he expresses his state of mind through sound, visuals, collaborations, etc. In the same year, he debuted as an actor on "Rajathandiram" receiving critical acclaim for his role. In 2016, Siva returned to the US after receiving an invite for a month-long residency as a Facilitator-in Residence for the project. He released an album for the film "Kidaari" as a music composer in August 2016. In 2017, Siva was confirmed as the music composer of the upcoming film "Enai Noli Potham Totha", whose musical trailer created a buzz at New Year’s Eve.
